Allen Street Farmers Market

Today, from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. come to the Allen Street Farmers Market for some fresh fruits and vegetables.  Some of this week’s features are the Vang’s cabbage, green beans, carrots, and more.  For more information call 999-3911.

 

Riverside Park Neighborhood Association

The Riverside Park Neighborhood Association has changed it meeting night to the first Thursday, of every other month.  Their next meeting will be on Thursday, September 4th at 7:00 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church.  For more information call Betsy Reum at 482-9511.

 

Saginaw/Oakland Corridor Workshop

On Thursday, September 4, from 6-8 p.m., the Lansing Planning and
Neighborhood Development Department will hold the third in a series
of community outreach workshops about a corridor analysis study for
the Saginaw/Oakland corridor. This workshop will be held in the new
Pattengill Middle School Cafetorium at 626 Marshall Street.
This workshop will focus on recommending a preferred alternative for
the road configurations, land use, and aesthetics, based on road
capacity data and the comments received at the May 22 and June 26
workshops.
The new Pattengill Middle School is located at the SE corner of
Saginaw and Marshall Streets in Lansing.
Numerous public workshops and meetings are being scheduled as part of
the Design Lansing master plan project, but this is the third and
final workshop focusing primarily on the Saginaw/Oakland corridor.

 

Greencroft Park Neighborhood Association

The Greencroft Park Neighborhood Association will hold its regular meeting on Saturday, September 6th at 10:00 a.m. located at Coscarelli’s Restaurant.  All residents living within the boundaries of Washington, Mt. Hope, Cedar, and Greenlawn as well as guests are welcome to our meetings.  This is a regular meetings.  This is a regular meeting with a presentation from Joel Wiese who will share tips on how to save energy in and around the house.  Continental breakfast is provided.  Anyone wanting information about the association may contact Pam Baker at 482-0943.

 

Association for the Bingham Community

The Association for the Bingham Community will be having their monthly meeting on Monday, September 8th at 6:00 p.m. at Pilgrim Church, 125 South Pennsylvania.  For more information call 484-9109.

 

Volunteers Needed

The Greater Lansing Housing Coalition is in need of volunteers for their annual 2008 Home Tour on Sunday, September 14th from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Moores River Drive and Cambridge area.   There are two shifts 11:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.   Volunteers will provide assistance with tourist traffic flow through homes, add Homeowner interest points and provide security for homes during the Tour.  If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Amy Rose at amyrose@glhc.org or call (517) 372-5980 ext. 11.  All volunteers receive a complimentary ticket which may be used before or after volunteer shift. 

 

Urban Gardner Certification Program

The Urban Gardner Certification Program is a 10 week/20 hour course featuring instruction in basic yard and greenhouse gardening appropriate for high density, small lot neighborhoods such as those on Lansing’s Eastside and neighborhood plots in the Garden House.  Courses will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, beginning on Tuesday, September 16th until Tuesday, November 18th at the Hunter Park Community Garden House (just off the Clifford Street parking, one block south of Kalamazoo) or at Allen Neighborhood Center.  For more information contact Joan Nelson at 999-3911.  Enrollment is limited with preference given to Eastside residents.  Cost is $10 for materials.

Southside Community Coalition Farmer’s Market

Stop on your way home at the Southside Community Coalition Farmer’s Market every Tuesday from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. They are located at 2101 West Holmes Road, Lansing 48910.  The Farmer’s Market will be open every Tuesday until October 28th.  For more information call 394-6846.
